Hi Guys,
Today I wanted to talk about something a little different, this is not about photography [that much] or fashion, it's about traveling solo, and why you should!
A lot of people can't see the beauty of traveling alone, and some might even think you're crazy for doing it. And maybe it is a bit out of the ordinary, but who cares? Take a chance!
Last year I went traveling alone for the first time, and I fell in love with the entire 'traveling solo' concept, right away. It's only normal for you to be a little nervous, but trust me, with the right preparation, there's nothing to worry about.
Be Prepared
As much as I love to 'seize the moment', I also like to be super prepared at the same time. When it comes to traveling, this isn't a bad thing.
Especially when you're on your own, you want to make really sure you have everything well prepared.
I always feel like the part from the airport to the accommodation is where us solo travelers have to be a bit careful, but once checked in and settled down, that's when the fun begins.
- Research how and how long it's gonna take to get to your accommodation, when possible I recommend ordering tickets for public transport in advance, in the comfort of your own home.
- Keep your hand luggage well organized, keep all your documents in a sturdy pouch or folder, and keep it in an easy to access place. I recommend making copies of everything and keeping those in a different place.
- Carry enough cash, but don't keep it all in one place. [this one's common sense really]
Enjoy, Alone
So, now you're there, on your own, what are you going to do?
Go out, explore, get lost, live!
I can not express in words how lovely it is to wander around in a strange city, not having to discuss any left or right turn you take, enjoying the different surroundings.
Me being a film photography fanatic, I enjoy walking around with my polaroid camera, capturing all the lovely things around me.
Here are some tips of places I like to visit:
- Shopping area's, especially antique markets, thrift shops and artsy neighborhoods.
- Museums and art gallery's.
- Big, old library's.
- Starbucks [great place to sit down, write in your travel journal and be surrounded with other people].
- Take a walk [or run!] down the park.
So if you ever get the chance to travel alone, I really think you should give it a try!
